So... it's been awhile. Like a lot longer than usual between posts in the two months or so before I head out on a trip. I will blame that on the end of the semester (all those fun papers to finish grading and grades to enter) and the release of a video game that Jacob has been waiting years for (that he suckered me into playing). Now, I think I'm back to real life so it's time for an update.
I finally heard from Jerry (who is leading the trip) a couple of weeks ago and he sent out a little packet/orientation guide. This time around, we'll be staying at the Hotel Clipa in Turnu Severin which is different than the last trip. It looks small and hostel-y which is always a plus in my book (I like cozy; not like we'll be there all that much though). Also, here is our specific itinerary (I posted general dates earlier but here is where we'll be each day):
Tuesday (June 12th)- Most of the group is coming from Detroit. I will meet up with everyone on Wednesday morning in Amsterdam for the flight to Bucharest.
Wednesday (June 13th)- Long bus ride to Severin. It's about 7-8 hours and it was not pleasant the last time we did it. We probably won't get in until pretty late (since we won't leave the airport until after 2:00 pm or so).
Thursday (June 14th)- Orientation, visit Manna feeding centers, and visit the orphanage.
Friday (June 15th)- Lupsa (we'll be doing lots in each community)
Saturday (June 16th)- Rogova (my favorite!!!!)
Sunday (June 17th)- Severin and Lupsa
Monday (June 18th)- Rogova
Tuesday (June 19th)- This is when the rest of the group heads off to go sightsee until the 21st. At this point, I will move into the orphanage and start doing who knows what! Hopefully, I'll be around all of these centers and communities over the remaining two weeks; it is going to be so much fun!
I'll have a more detailed update soon with a list of everything that I'm bringing (maybe there will be a picture or two included) once I get everything. I'm not sure if I'll have that much more trip or travel specific information to provide an update on since I won't know much of the specifics until we actually get there. Eventually, I'll figure out my one-day-trip in Amsterdam and will post that info. here too.
I haven't really had a lot of time to think about this trip as much since there has been so much else going on. But, I'm still super excited and I'm glad everything has kind of calmed down and now I can refocus back on getting ready to go!
